Johntay Cook and Washington have parted ways, according to multiple reports.
Dawgman247 first reported Cook’s exit from Washington’s transfer class. The report says the decision came after Cook and Washington coach Jedd Fisch met in-person on Tuesday.
On3’s Pete Nakos adds that Cook was on campus for just a couple of days before the Huskies parted ways with the former Texas wideout.
A source confirms to @On3sports that Johntay Cook and Washington have parted ways. The Texas transfer was on campus for roughly 48 hours before the decision was made. Nothing is clear on the next step for Cook, but Huskies will dip into the portal to address WR position. t.co/n0vpLIoOx5
— Pete Nakos (@PeteNakos_) January 15, 2025Cook was an elite recruit coming out of high school. He was a 5-star prospect and the No. 4 wide receiver in the country for the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings. However, his production didn’t match his pedigree through 2 years in Austin. He caught 16 passes for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns over the past 2 years with the Longhorns.
He committed to Washington on Dec. 28 and looked to be a significant part of the Huskies’ upcoming transfer portal class. Instead, Cook will go back on the market — where he’s likely to be one of the most talented receivers available — and Washington will be forced to go back into the portal for additional help at wide receiver.
