Savannah Guthrie is one of Craig Melvin's biggest fans, giving him an ecstatic welcome as he assumes a new position.
On Monday, the two Today personalities made their TV debut without their longtime colleague and friend, Hoda Kotb. (Kotb announced she would be leaving her spot at the table months ago, but her last day wasn't until this past Friday, Jan. 10). Now that the "Hoda-bration" is over, it's back to work for the cast and crew of the NBC morning show.

For Melvin, 45, that means stepping up to take over as Today's co-anchor, something the whole team first celebrated when the shakeup was announced in November 2024.
"Craig's Today show ride is heading in an exciting new direction today. Our new Today co-anchor kicks off his run," Guthrie, 53, said, kicking off the 7 a.m. ET hour of the talk show on Jan. 13.
"You’ve sat there so many times but this morning is special," she added. "Let’s go, this is going to be a beautiful ride."
Melvin appeared to be just as enthralled by the milestone broadcast, telling his co-host: "And there’s no one I would rather ride with than you. So let’s do this."

Elsewhere in the episode, NBC Sports broadcaster Mike Tirico joined the conversation, asking Melvin if "moving over one chair" has felt any "different."
"Hopefully, it's not going to be that much different. I'll get up a little earlier," Melvin replied, revealing a little piece of advice bestowed upon him from his predecessor. "Hoda gave me some advice. If you start changing things, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Who you've been and what you've done has gotten you to where you are."
"I'm going to show up earlier. I'm going to bring Savannah a cup of coffee every morning," he continued. "I think that's all I can do."
Rearranged positions at the table aside, the fourth hour of Today will also look a little different as Jenna Bush Hager goes solo and welcomes special guest hosts each week on her rebranded talk show, Today With Jenna & Friends, airing weekdays at 10 a.m. ET on NBC.
