Weight loss drugs could “bankrupt the NHS” if all eligible patients were prescribed them, a leading obesity expert has warned.
Prof Naveed Sattar, who leads the UK government’s Obesity Healthcare Goals programme, told the BBC he estimates it would cost around £10bn if all 3.4 million patients deemed suitable for the drugs in England were treated with weight loss jabs immediately.
Prof Sattar believes more than nine in 10 people currently using the drugs in the UK are paying for them privately.
