Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a 2017 shooting in north Sunnyvale that left one man dead and another wounded, authorities said.
The Sunnyvale Police Department SWAT team arrested Vicente Aguilera-Chavez in East Palo Alto and Agustin Sandoval in Escalon in San Joaquin County on Friday following a two-day operation. Both suspects were then booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on murder charges, according to Sunnyvale police Capt. Dzanh Le.

Duane Avenue. About 2 a.m. that day, police responded to a report of shots being fired. Edu Veliz-Salgado, 21, was discovered dead at the scene while another man, a 24-year-old, was found shot and wounded nearby. The suspects took off before police arrived.
Police are still investigating a motive for the shooting. Le said the department doesn’t believe the victims and suspects knew each other prior to the June 8 incident.
Veliz-Salgado was Sunnyvale’s first homicide victim of 2017.
