Cooper Flagg and Duke are 6-0 in the ACC after a win over Notre Dame on Saturday. But the headlines belonged to the Blue Devils freshman as he scored 42 points, setting an ACC freshman record and posting the first 40-point game by any Duke player in nearly 20 years.
Flagg was not far from perfect from the floor, going 11-of-14 and sinking 4 of his 6 3-point attempts. He was also 16-of-17 from the line. But he wasn’t afraid to share the wealth, dishing out a game-high 7 assists while also adding 6 rebounds, second only to Khalan Maluach’s 10.
Duke made it to the Final Four in Mike Krzyzewski’s final season. Last year, its second season under Jon Scheyer, it made it to the Elite Eight before falling to Tobacco Road foe NC State. But with expectations always sky-high in Durham, the Blue Devils, who are 14-2 overall and ranked No. 4 in the country, are hoping to bring home the program’s first national title in a decade — and Flagg will play a major part in that quest.
There was plenty of social media reaction following Flagg’s massive game. Here’s just a sample of it:

— Roderick I. (@MrRoderickI) January 11, 2025I know people are blinded by a hatred of Duke, but if you can't appreciate Cooper Flagg going for 42 points (11-14, 4-6, 16-17) with 6 rebounds, and 7 assists I don't know what to tell you.Notre Dame has really good guards and shot 14-22 from 3. Most teams would lose that game.
