DENVER (KDVR) — A coach was reportedly punched repeatedly by a skier while at Steamboat Ski Resort, and police are looking for the suspect.
The city of Steamboat Springs said that on the afternoon of Jan. 4, the resort's security team called Steamboat Springs police about a Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club coach who was assaulted on the mountain.
According to the victim, a male skier verbally confronted him while he was coaching a group of young people because of where he was standing on the terrain. The city said the coach attempted to calm the situation and tried to leave the area before things escalated.

When he caught up to the coach, the man allegedly grabbed him and punched him in the head several times. The coach sustained what the city called possible serious injuries.
The city said the coach was able to take a photo of the suspect and a student filmed the assault.
“This is unacceptable and dangerous behavior in an area many kids and families frequently enjoy,” said Sgt. Evan Noble in a press release. “SSPD wants to acknowledge the calm behavior of the ski coach, who attempted to calm the situation and remove himself and his group from the area.”
Steamboat Springs police have received several tips about the suspect and developed probable cause to arrest him, but he has not been located.
