Nick Saban is heading to the College Football Hall of Fame later this year, and that’s obviously no shock at all.
Saban is arguably the greatest head coach in college football history with 7 national championships — 6 at Alabama and 1 at LSU — and it was announced earlier on Friday that he’ll be part of the Hall’s Class of 2025. The announcement was made on the day of the College Football Playoff’s second semifinal between Texas and Ohio State, and ESPN’s College GameDay pregame show had the live platform from Arlington, Texas, to properly congratulate Saban on his latest honor.
Saban, being incredibly humble, spoke during the pregame show about the great players who played under him and the great coaches who coached under him, and how it all added up to a successful coaching career.
“Any time anything like this happens, it’s because you had a lot of great players in the organization. Lot of great players, lot of great coaches, lot of (great) support staff, and they made a great team. I was happy to drive the bus, but we had a lot of great people on it,” said Saban, as his co-hosts on College GameDay gave him a well-deserved round of applause.
