Trevor Lawrence is gearing up for a pivotal season as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ franchise quarterback, hoping to move past injuries and adapt to yet another coaching change.
Lawrence played just 10 games in 2024 due to a concussion and AC joint surgery on his non-throwing shoulder, marking his second consecutive season hampered by health issues. Despite the challenges, he’s determined to learn from the setbacks and maintain his availability moving forward.
“Being the franchise quarterback, I have to be out there, I have to be on the field, and I have to be available,” Lawrence said. “That’s difficult to not be able to do that. I think I’ve learned a lot through injuries and how I can try to protect myself more because that’s the main thing I need to do.”
Lawrence also reflected on the firing of head coach Doug Pederson, marking his third coaching change since entering the league. “As a player, it’s weird, especially given the history with Coach being here and having success early,” Lawrence said. “You feel some responsibility because as a player you have an impact on the game. It’s unfortunate. You wish you could’ve done more and won more games.”
The Jaguars now face the challenge of building a new coaching staff while keeping their franchise quarterback on track. Lawrence acknowledged the disappointment of Pederson’s dismissal but understands it’s part of the business. “If you asked any of us going into the season, no one would’ve thought Coach Pederson would’ve been fired at the end of the year. For whatever reason, this year we didn’t do enough.”
With his $275 million contract extension and optimism surrounding his rehab, Lawrence remains the cornerstone of the franchise. As the Jaguars enter a new era, his health and growth will be key to turning the team’s fortunes around.
