It wasn’t the largest slate around The Association last night, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t end up with some epic NBA highlights!
We got monster dunks across the board from some of the biggest names in hoops, plus a buzzer-beating bomb and a sick backboard pass. Let’s take a look at some of the top moments from Tuesday night’s action!
NBA Highlights
In Utah last night the Hawks were given some unexpected trouble by the Jazz. With just 2.9 seconds remaining, Collin Sexton drilled a contested three from the wing to tie up the game at 121 apiece. Tie game, no timeouts, less than three seconds on the clock? No problem for Trae Young!UNBELIEVABLE SHOT FROM TRAE YOUNG…GAME-WINNER FROM BEYOND HALFCOURT!#TissotBuzzerBeater #YourTimeDefinesYourGreatness pic.twitter.com/f5sWGEplNx
— NBA (@NBA) January 8, 2025 The Lakers lost a brutal one in blowout fashion to the Mavericks last night who were without both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. However, the recently-turned 40-year-old LeBron James still managed to make his mark on the game. Early in the first quarter, Lakers guard Max Christie took a rebound on the low block and fired a pass to a cutting LeBron from the top of the key … who switched hands for a MONSTER slam! Is this one of the best dunks of his career? It’s crazy we can even ask that in 2025.LEBRON. JAMES. ? He puts down a lefty HAMMER to kick things off on TNT! pic.twitter.com/pnl22TeatN
— NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) January 8, 2025 Let’s stick with the monster dunks, shall we? LeBron James was the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. The first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft will very likely be Duke’s Cooper Flagg. The Blue Devils made easy work of Pitt last night at Cameron Indoor Stadium and the highlight of the night came early in the second half thanks to the soon-to-be lottery pick. Flagg picked off a bounce pass in the low post and did the rest himself, going coast-to-coast and flushing a hammer-time poster dunk.????????♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️?♂️ @Cooper_Flagg pic.twitter.com/K0cqvzuWtY
— Duke Men’s Basketball (@DukeMBB) January 8, 2025 This one might not have been as authoritative as the first two, but Houston’s Amen Thompson had himself a highlight-reel jam, as well. Early in the second quarter, Thompson took a pass just past half-court, drove to the basket, sidestepped a defender, and threw it down with the right hand. It was a big dunk for sure, but the athleticism and smoothness he pulled this off with was what stuck out to me.‼️ HERE GOES AMEN ‼️ pic.twitter.com/GY638ic0fR
— Houston Rockets (@HoustonRockets) January 8, 2025 It’s been a tough season for Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans thus far. After last season’s tough loss to the Lakers in the Play-In Tournament, it felt like they were primed to take a step forward in 2024-25, but this campaign has been anything but that. Zion played last night for the first time since November 6, 2024, missing 27 games due to a hamstring injury. While New Orleans lost to the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Zion still gave the New Orleans crowd something to get excited about. Early in the third quarter, Williamson picked off a pass at center court and took the ball to the hoop, where he threw down a ridiculous 360 slam. Zion scored 22 points in 28 minutes in the promising comeback.ZION. IS. BACK. ? t.co/zpd4kiRWiJ pic.twitter.com/VvegqofO2L
— NBA (@NBA) January 8, 2025 This one didn’t necessarily end in a bucket, but we’ll give it an “A” for creativity! Midway through the first quarter last night against the Suns, LaMelo Ball got Devin Booker to go up on a pump fake. He then pivoted around Booker and, instead of passing to a teammate or putting up an off-balance shot, LaMelo fired a pass to himself off the backboard. Upon receiving his own pass, he dished it down low, which ended up leading to the Hornets getting to the free throw line.LaMelo off glass to himself for the pass ? pic.twitter.com/b0QU4buzvS
