A nearly year-long narcotics investigation led by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department culminated Tuesday with the arrests of 11 people suspected of street-level drug dealing.

Seven of those arrested face felony charges, while four were booked on misdemeanor charges, according to law enforcement.

The investigation, launched in May 2024 by detectives from the Vista Sheriff’s Station, focused on stemming the flow of dangerous street drugs in Vista.

The push came in response to alarming overdose numbers in recent years — deputies responded to approximately 200 overdose incidents in 2023 and 2024, resulting in 60 overdose-related criminal cases.

Undercover operations during the investigation led to eight controlled purchases of methamphetamine and fentanyl, two of the most prevalent and dangerous drugs affecting local communities, officials said.

The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Vista Sheriff’s Station’s Community Policing and Problem-Solving Unit (COPPS), the Sheriff’s Gang Enforcement Team and the Sheriff’s Narcotics and Gang Division.
