DENVER (KDVR) — Aurora police said a 16-year-old was killed during a reported home invasion and shooting Tuesday morning.
At about 6:15 a.m., Aurora police were called to an apartment complex in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue in the Village East neighborhood.
When they arrived at the apartment, officers said they found a victim, a 16-year-old girl with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers performed life-saving actions until medical responders arrived and took the girl to a local hospital.

During a Tuesday morning press conference, Cpt. Marc Paolino with the Aurora Police Department Investigations Bureau said preliminary information indicates two males made their way into the apartment where multiple people were inside. A "physical struggle" ensued and multiple shots were fired, that is when the 16-year-old was hit.
"When I looked out my bedroom window, I saw two people running from the suspected house that this occurred at. They took off running. And I kept watching. Another male exited the house saying they shot his baby. He yelled that twice, 'They shot my baby. They shot my baby,'" resident Christopher Espinoza told FOX31's Vicente Arenas.
At this time, police said they do not have suspect information and the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are working to determine the motivation and if the suspects had any connection to the victims.
Paolini said the department has no reason to believe this incident is related to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. However, detectives are still investigating.
