Verizon user slams $3.85 payment from $100m settlement – and says ‘they could’ve kept the cash’

VERIZON users have mocked the telecoms giant after they started to receive payments from a $100 million settlement pot.

Chiefs are paying out after resolving claims that it misled its customers between 2016 and 2023.

The payments were reserved for those who used Verizon and former account holders.

Verizon was accused of not disclosing fees for its wireless service plans.

Chiefs didn’t admit any wrongdoing but agreed to pay out.

The maximum payment was $100, but Americans were furious about what they received.

One recipient shared a screenshot that revealed she had received a payment.

She only received $3.85, according to an X post.

“I need to see the court documents,” she fumed.

    “Y’all got me f**ked up.”

She blasted that the company could’ve kept the cash.

The social media user is not the only customer who has lashed out at their payment.

“Thanks for the $5.63 from the settlement,” another said.

“I just got my Verizon settlement, pls dnt p*** me off,” a third user railed.

The deadline to file claims was April 2024, and payments are being drip-fed.

It’s thought the maximum payment was $100.

Americans could either receive their check in the mail or electronically.

However, they were warned that payments could be lower depending on the amount of claims filed.

    What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
