If you purchased gas in San Diego County between Feb. 20 and Nov. 10, 2015, you may be eligible for a rebate, with applications due Wednesday.
Attorney General Rob Bonta is calling on drivers in 10 California counties to submit claims for compensation under a state settlement involving gas trading firms accused of price manipulation.
The $50 million settlement was announced in July between the state of California and two major gas trading firms — Vitol, Inc. and SK Energy Americas, Inc., along with its parent company, SK Trading International.
The firms were accused of illegally manipulating the spot market prices for gasoline after an explosion at a Torrance refinery in 2015, leading to inflated costs for California drivers during this vulnerable period.
Of the $50 million settlement, $37.5 million will be allocated for gas rebates to impacted consumers in California.
Eligible residents of San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Imperial counties can submit a claim for payment through the settlement website www.CalGasLitigation.com or mail in a claim form.
The payment amount individuals receive will be determined by the number of valid claims submitted, according to the settlement website.
