A BELOVED Harley-Davidson dealership will have a new owner after being in the same family for 75 years.
Customers have just a few days left to visit the Historic Harley-Davidson of Topeka, Kansas, before its takeover.
Steven Towers, who owns Harley-Davidson dealerships in North Carolina and Nebraska, is taking over the business starting on January 14.
The shop’s current owner, Mike Patterson, announced the news in a post on Facebook.
“This year, my family proudly celebrated 75 incredible years serving Harley-Davidson customers across Northeast Kansas,” Patterson shared.
He said the business is marking the milestone by preparing for change after years of hard work and family memories.
“After much thought and reflection, I’ve made the decision to sell Historic Harley-Davidson,” Patterson said.
He went on to say the store has been in his family for four generations since his grandpa first opened the doors in 1949.
He thanked customers for their loyalty and passion, and for becoming an “extension of our family.”
“It’s not easy to step away from something that has been such a defining part of my life and my family’s legacy, but I am confident in Steven Towers as the next steward of Historic Harley-Davidson,” Patterson said.
“Steven shares the same passion for Harley-Davidson and the motorcycle community that has fueled us for 75 years.”
Patterson said the store’s current employees will have a position at the dealership and that customers can stay tuned for more updates.
“To all our loyal customers and friends, thank you. Thank you for standing by us, riding with us, and trusting us through the years,” Patterson said.
“You’ve made every mile of this journey worth it. I can’t express enough how much your support has meant to me and my family.”
Dozens of bike-riders shared their support for Patterson in the comments of the post.
“In the world today it is so refreshing to hear an owner express the love, kindness, and thoughtfulness of his employees and his Community,” one customer wrote.
Motorcycle equipment tips
BEFORE saddling a motorcyle and taking to the streets, drivers should know exactly what equipment is necessary to stay safe.
It’s recommended that riders protect themselves as much as possible before they race down the highway alongside other cars.
This means that every driver should absolutely have a high-quality motorcycle helmet that fits perfectly.
It’s also crucial to try and cover as much skin as possible, so pants and a riding jacket should be worn at all times.
Cautious drivers can go the extra step by always keeping riding gloves on hand and by wearing boots on the road.
Cycle World puts it this way, “When you are trying to justify spending your money on gear, just ask yourself this question: What is that body part worth? And then spend accordingly.”
“It is always bittersweet to say goodbyebut I hope as you said the new owner will carry your same caring mindset.”
“Thank you for so many memories,” another wrote.
A former employee shared, “It was an honor and a privilege to work for you, Mike! I wish you and your family all the best, and nothing but well wishes for this new chapter for History Harley Davidson.”
“My thanks to the Patterson family. Still have my first leather jacket purchased at the shop on 6th Street,” another reminisced.
Another customer was even left in tears at the news.
“I sit here with tears in my eyes remembering all the good times we had at your dealership,” the shopper wrote.
“Thanks for all the good times and God bless you and your family in your next endeavor.”
