Johnny Depp shared an important message with his followers on social media for their own "protection."
The 61-year-old actor took to Instagram on Monday, Jan. 6, to issue a warning about an apparent scam targeting his fans.
"Happy New Year, Everyone," Depp wrote in his post. "Sadly, it has been brought to my attention that online scammers are intensifying their efforts to target my fans and supporters."

"As part of their tactics, they create multiple, deceptive social media and email accounts impersonating me and members of my team," the Pirates of the Caribbean star continued.
"Today, AI can create the illusion of my face and voice. Scammers may look and sound just like the real me. But, neither I, nor my team, will ask you for money or your personal information."

Depp went on to emphasize that he and his team are "actively working to combat these illicit schemes."
In the meantime, "for the protection and awareness" of his fans, Depp reiterated that @johnnydepp is his only Instagram account; his official Facebook account is @johnnydepp, and his only TikTok account is @johnnydepp.
He went on to say that he is not on X/Twitter, Snapchat, or Discord.
"I do not offer paid meetings, phone calls, club memberships, or fan cards," Depp added, noting that he does "not interact directly with fans on any social media platforms, via email, or via chat-based platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal or Zangi."
Depp is far from the only star to deal with this type of situation, as online scams attempting to profit from celebrity fandoms are common. In December, Candace Cameron Bure informed her followers about an identity theft scam targeting her podcast listeners.
"My podcast never pays guests nor do most reputable podcasts. This is a red flag ?!!" Bure wrote on Instagram at the time.
"Do not engage," she added. "If you unknowingly do, never give them access to your FB or Instagram account! They say they need all access to your account [sic] in order to broadcast the interview. It’s a scam!! I’m sorry if this has happened to you. You’re not the only one who has been duped, I promise ?. These people are pros and I’m saddened for everyone who has been tricked and affected by them."
