In the immortal words of Jack Buck: “I don’t believe what I just saw.”
For the first time since 2018, the Chicago Bears have secured a victory against the Green Bay Packers. And they did it on the road at Lambeau Field. Who saw this coming?

Thoughts on a season-ending Bears win

— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) January 5, 2025 Even with Cairo Santos’ magnificent kick, this will always be remembered as Caleb Williams’ first fourth-quarter game-winning drive against the Packers. It sure wasn’t the prettiest. I hope it isn’t his last. The Bears had a halftime lead in this one. They had an 11-point lead at one point. And yet, that never felt safe. Can you blame me? The Bears were out-gained 222-57 in the first half and Caleb Williams’ stat line at the break looked like this: 8/12, 33 yards (2.8 yards/attempt), 0 TD, 0 INT, 70.1 passer rating. I definitely hit a point in which I was hoping the team would just run out the clock and call it a day. But I’m glad they didn’t. Playing 60 minutes has its perks.INSTANT BEARS PLAYER GRADES: Week 18 vs. Green Bay Packers
Kudos to the Bears for an inspired defensive performance in Week 18. The much-maligned unit came up with 3 sacks, 7 quarterback hits, 6 tackles-for-loss, and 2 fumble recoveries. That showing doesn’t change my mind about changes that need to be made on that side of the ball this offseason, but it reminded me that this group wasn’t as bad as it looked during that losing streak. Perhaps a different voice can bring new life to the D. If I were the NFL commissioner, I would make it a rule that teams eliminated from postseason contention have to go for it on every fourth down on the other side of the 50. I would also add legislation that one (1) trick play per offensive possession needs to be attempted. On the defensive side of the ball, I would make it a rule that we’d get at least one (1) exotic blitz concept. And of course, two-point tries after every TD. Let’s get weird.Bears Week 18 highlights
One last batch of highlights for the road
Fooling the camera guy on a punt return touchdown is cool. And DJ Moore should get some Oscar nominations for this acting job:Even fooled our camera guy ??: #CHIvsGB on FOX pic.twitter.com/hBQDBgv91l

— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) January 5, 2025How did the three Bears perform?
Caleb Williams — Stats from QB1 after the Week 18 win:
21 of 29 (72.4 pct.) 148 passing yards 1 touchdown, 0 interception 95.2 passer ratingWe’ll have more unpacking of Caleb Williams’ numbers in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Jaylon Johnson — CB1 forced a fumble which led to the team’s first offensive touchdown. I was hoping the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback would end the year on a high note and feel as if forcing a turnover that leads to a touchdown counts.
He also did this…

Cairo Santos — Patrick and Matt both chose Caleb Williams, which left us short a player this week. Thankfully, Cairo Santos played the hero. So to the victor goes the spoils here. With that kick, Cairo Santos finishes the 2024 season with this stat line: 21 of 25 on FGs (84 percent), 25 of 26 on PATs (96.1 percent), and 8 of 9 (88.9 percent) on field goals of 50+ yards. The 84 percent success rate on field goals is Santos’ worst mark since returning to Chicago in 2020. There will be conversations about whether Santos’ future should be with this team. But we can cross that bridge when we get to it.
WHAT’S NEXT: The offseason — 2025 NFL Important Dates to Remember
Now that this season is officially over, we can fully invest our time and energy into finding a full-time replacement for Matt Eberflus. Some candidate names have already surfaced, including Mike Vrabel — who is reportedly set to interview this week. We’ll be following the rumors and sharing the most prevalent ones as they pop up. This will be our third search for a head coach since becoming a site in 2017. I’m looking forward to seeing how this one unfolds.
With that being said, thank you for reading, commenting, sharing, and being here as a Bears community. You deserve better than what this franchise has given you. I hope you get what you desire and deserve (starting with this offseason).
