Liverpool 2-2 Man Utd (Gakpo 59′, Salah pen 70’| Martinez 52′, Diallo 80′)
Manchester United held Liverpool to an impressive Premier League draw, one of the best performances of the nascent Ruben Amorim era.
United had not scored in their past five visits to Anfield, but goals from Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo secured a point they ultimately deserved.
After a stagnant first-half in which Liverpool had the better chances, Martinez lashed a strike past Alisson and into the roof of the net.
Although Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool rally to take the lead, Diallo tucked in at the far post to ensure the spoils were shared.
Alisson: Was not hugely challenged apart from Martinez’s goal, which he could do little about. 6/10
Trent Alexander-Arnold: Dire defending and inconsistent going forward – this was not his day. Inverted in the second half but didn’t improve, caught out badly for both United’s goals. Played like he was injured – or his heart was not fully in it. 2/10
Ibrahima Konate: Aerially dominant and largely covered for his right-back’s underperformance. 7/10
Virgil van Dijk: Dealt with almost everything United put into the penalty area, as is expected for the best central defender in the world. 8/10
Andy Robertson: Could have done better for Diallo’s equaliser but otherwise fine. 5/10
Ryan Gravenberch: Not quite as sharp and consistent as he can be, but created several decent chances and helped Mac Allister win the midfield battle. 7/10
Alexis Mac Allister: Liverpool’s best player. Assisted Gakpo’s goal nicely, could have scored early on after a brilliant run and dictated play. 8/10
Mohamed Salah: Limited in the first half by his positioning – too far out on the right – but moved inside and took his penalty well. 7/10
Curtis Jones: Could not find a foothold in this match at all. Hauled off without taking a shot or creating a chance. 5/10
Cody Gakpo: Flicked the best chance of the first 15 minutes wide but made up for it with a brilliant goal. Continues to show up in big moments. 7/10
Luis Diaz: Had flashes in attack but largely acted as a distraction rather than a genuine threat. 6/10

Man Utd player ratings
Andre Onana: Solid early on and got a hand to Liverpool’s penalty. None of this was his fault. 6/10
Matthijs de Ligt: A strong first-half performance ruined by the second. Sent for a hotdog by Gakpo for his goal and then conceded a spot-kick by doing jumping jacks in the penalty area. 3/10
Harry Maguire: Organised United’s defensive line well and did everything asked of him, right until the death. Missed a phenomenal chance to win the game for United. 6/10
Lisandro Martinez: Made up for a poor early clearance with a strong performance and a very well-taken goal. 7/10
Noussair Mazraoui: Still does not look hugely comfortable as a wing-back. Largely ineffective at either end but basically tidy. 5/10
Kobbie Mainoo: Was run around midfield by Gravenberch, not helped by some loose passing. 6/10
Manuel Ugarte: An all-action performance, his best since joining United. Should have picked up an early yellow. 8/10
Diogo Dalot: Gave Alexander-Arnold trouble down the left but did not take full advantage of his opposite number’s horror show. Picked up a silly early yellow. 6/10
Amad Diallo: Covered every blade of grass. Between a key slip and a backwards header, he made two high-profile mistakes, but then scored another key goal. 6/10
Bruno Fernandes: A captain’s performance and an assist. Creatively sharp and worked his socks off. 7/10
Rasmus Hojlund: Horrendously poor once again, not helped by facing Van Dijk. Missed the best chance of the first half and you never believed he would score it. 4/10
