Denver weather: Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for snow, fog

DENVER (KDVR) — Active winter weather has returned to Colorado as the Denver weather forecast is going to be much colder and snowier over the coming days.

The Pinpoint Weather team is tracking accumulating snowfall for Saturday into Sunday, with more opportunities for snow in the week ahead.

This Colorado area is expected to see the most snow this weekend

Weather today: Foggy start, snow coming

First, dense fog is expected Saturday morning in metro Denver and northeast Colorado. Given the temperatures below freezing, freezing fog will be a possibility so take it easy on the roads. Look for fog to improve during the day.

Saturday will start dry before snow develops in the high country early in the afternoon. Snowfall is expected in the Denver metro area and the plains starting in the mid-to-late afternoon. Snowfall will be heaviest in the mountains and eastern plains, especially Saturday evening and night.

Delays, record breaking traffic expected on I-70 this weekend

    Weather tonight: Cloudy with snow

Mostly cloudy skies continue to dominate the area tonight into tomorrow with lows dropping into the middle teens. There could be an inch or two of snow overnight as well.

2024 was one of Denver’s warmest years on record

    Looking ahead: Extended cold weather

After a very warm December, winter has finally returned to kick off January. Extended below-normal temperatures are in the forecast for the upcoming week.

Sunday will be quite cold for the Denver Broncos game against the Kansas City Chiefs with highs only near 30 degrees and falling through the game.

Another chance for snow will arrive Tuesday, which may be one of the coldest days of the winter season so far with highs only in the 20s. Temperatures look set to stay in the 30s through at least next Thursday.
