NBC has altered its broadcast for the highly-anticipated Week 18 regular-season matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions.
Both the Vikings and Lions enter the Sunday Night Football game with 14-2 records.
The NFL‘s “Game 272” for the 2024 regular season will have the characteristics of a playoff game.
And NBC Sports will treat the game as such, bringing its whole Football Night in America studio crew to Detroit’s Ford Field to cover the game on-site.
The full team of the pregame, halftime, and postgame show will be on hand in Detroit for the SNF game.
That means host Maria Taylor, NFL analysts Devin McCourty, Jason Garrett, Chris Simms, and NFL insider Mike Florio will appear at the stadium.
They will join Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison, and Jac Collinsworth whom regularly appear at the primetime games.
It will be the first non-playoff game the full team of FNIA will appear on-site – aside from season openers and Tom Brady‘s 2021 return to play the New England Patriots as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Vikings-Lions game has massive implications.
The winner will claim the NFC North division title and the No. 1 seed in the conference.
The top seed ensures a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
The loser will set a record for the winningest wild-card team in history.
The matchup will make league history with the most combined wins (28) of any regular-season game.
And the winner of the contest will be just the NFL’s ninth team to finish a regular season with 15 wins or more.
The Minnesota-Detroit matchup could also be a preview of the NFC Championship game.
The NBC’s decision of placing more talking heads at a big regular-season game mirrors CBS Sports’ move to bring its The NFL Today crew to Buffalo for the Kansas City Chiefs‘ November game at the Bills.
It was Andy Reid and the Chiefs’ only loss of the season.

As for the Vikings-Lions matchup, it’s possible it can become the highest-viewed game of the season.
Detroit beat Minnesota 31-29 back in October.
The Vikings have lost just one game since, and they have won their last nine games.
