CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) -- Winds will pick up ahead of an approaching cold front that will bring bitterly cold temperatures by the start of the weekend.
Friday starts off cold with low 30s and upper 20s locked in. Winds are light Friday morning but will pick up throughout the day as a cold front approaches from the west.

Look for partly cloudy skies as highs make a run for the low 50s Friday afternoon.
Winds will be breezy out of the west between 10 to 20 miles per hour and gust as fast as 30 miles per hour at times. Ashe, Avery, and Watauga counties will see a wind advisory issued at 7 p.m. Friday that will last until 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Mountain counties can see wind gusts as fast as 50 miles per hour at times.
The western-facing slopes and higher elevations will also see a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 10 a.m. Friday morning through midnight with rounds of accumulating snow likely throughout the day.
Friday brings the wind and cold as snow intermittently impacts our mountain counties. The frigid temperatures take hold overnight, with Saturday morning starting off in the 20s and teens with a wind chill in the negatives for our mountain counties!
Bundle up on Saturday as afternoon highs will struggle to get into the mid-40s under plenty of sunshine. Winds stay a bit breezy to start the weekend, with Sunday bringing the return of rain chances to end the weekend.
We’ll see rain and the potential for a wintry mix to kick off early next week as highs peak near 50 degrees to start the work week. Highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s will continue through the mid portions of next week.
