NISSAN has announced it is discontinuing one of its popular pickup trucks, shocking fanatics of the heavy-duty vehicle.
The Japanese automaker will stop producing its Titan trim in 2025 – as its 2024 edition marks the final model to enter the company’s showrooms.
The Nissan Titan was first introduced in December 2003 to compete with General Motors, Ram, and Ford‘s dominant pickup status in the United States.
The full-size pickup, equipped with a V-8 engine, came in four trims, its two-door Regular Cab, the King Cab with four doors that could seat up to six people, and the fully loaded Crew Cab.
However, after two decades on the market, Nissan pulled the plug on its popular pickup due to low sales.
Titan’s sales have been slow since its debut and never hit Nissan’s annual sales target of 100,000 units, according to CarsDirect.
The Japanese auto producer sold only 19,189 Titans in 2023 – less than 3% of the volume of F-Series pickups that Ford sold in the US in the same period.
Nissan eliminated the Titan in Canada at the end of 2021, and has now done the same in the United States.
Several fans of the Titan reacted to the disappointing news of the beloved pickups disappearing from showrooms.
“The Titan is kind of disappointing news,” an X user commented on a thread about 17 cars and trucks that are being discontinued in 2025.
“But the sales were tanking. Was surprised when I looked because I’ve seen a bunch in my area after the 2020 refresh.
“It seemed to be gaining popularity.”
A second said, “Noooooo! But we already knew this was coming. Sad day.”
“First vehicle I ever bought on my own, about 13 years ago. Loved that truck,” another user said, adding a crying face emoji to his post.
NISSAN CHOPPING BLOCK
The Nissan Titan will join several other models from the Japanese automaker on the chopping block.
Nissan’s beloved GT-R will also cease production in 2025.
The sports car has been in production since 2009 and has garnered considerable attention over the years partly because of its sleek design and high-performance engine.
Some die-hard fans were devastated to see the GT-R go and slammed the automaker for the decision.
“Big mistake,” said one devastated driver on X, as others shared crying reaction pictures.
“The end of an era,” another wrote.
