The two powerhouse schools were set to play on New Year’s Day, but a terror attack in New Orleans forced the game to be rescheduled for a later date.

Fans attending the game should expect to see a heavily secured Caesars Superdome, as police are implementing Super Bowl-level precautions for the event.

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick told NBC News that the security levels could even surpass those of the Super Bowl.

“We are going to have absolutely hundreds of officers and staff lining our streets,” she said.

“We are staffing up at the same level if not more so than we were prepared for Super Bowl.”

Police are also shutting down highway exit ramps to bar any vehicles from getting near the Superdome.

“Drivers should expect Superdome exit ramps to be closed right now,” Fox New Orleans traffic anchor Kristi Coleman reported.

“Active investigation still going on in the French Quarter and heavy police presence by the dome due to today’s game.”

According to NBC New Orleans anchor Brandi Harris, the city is establishing a perimeter around the Superdome.

Water filled barriers will block streets around the stadium and the French Quarter.

Streets will also be barricaded by large vehicles if there aren’t enough barriers.

The Sugar Bowl will kick off at 4 pm ET, but some state officials want to see it moved back even further.

Louisiana attorney general Liz Murrill thinks the game should have kicked off on Friday at the earliest.

“Not my decision, but I would like to see it delayed at least another day,” Murrill told NBC News.

“If they asked my opinion, I would tell them that. I think it was a wise decision to delay it at least a day.

“This is an active crime scene, and they just finished removing some of the bodies. They still haven’t removed all of them.

“I still think that we probably need to wait an extra day.”

While the game is delayed, Murrill did emphasize that the New Orleans community is safe.

“I believe that the community is safe,” Murrill said.

“There’s a huge law enforcement presence here in New Orleans. I believe that everyone is safe, and the governor plans to attend the football game.”
