San Diego authorities are weighing in on the deadly attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the early morning hours of New year’s Day, where as many as 15 people were killed when a truck was intentionally driven into a crowd of holiday revelers.
“The San Diego Police Department stands with the entire country as we mourn the lives lost in the atrocious attack in New Orleans. Our hearts go out to the victims, their loved ones, and the City of New Orleans,” the SDPD said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
“The San Diego Police Department continues to work collaboratively with our local, state and federal partners to identify any threats to San Diego. At this time, there are no known threats to our city. We stand ready to respond or assist in any way should information become available.
“Public safety is a shared responsibility that requires everyone’s participation. We encourage you to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or information that comes to your attention,” the department added.
“Two terrorist attacks on the very first day of the year — countless lives lost and others forever changed,” County Supervisor Jim Desmond said, referring to the New Orleans attack and a truck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas that killed one person and wounded several others.
“First, hug your loved ones tight tonight. Second, it’s clear: we need real action to ensure safety in this country,” Desmond added.

— Supervisor Jim Desmond (@jim_desmond) January 1, 2025FBI officials said an ISIS flag was located in the vehicle that drove into the crowd in New Orleans, and said the accused truck driver, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas, might not have been acting alone.
The Las Vegas explosion was being investigated.
