Stephen A. Smith slams ESPN co-star Mike Greenberg for Aaron Rodgers omission after disaster year for New York Jets

STEPHEN A. SMITH has called out ESPN co-star Mike Greenberg over New York Jets flop Aaron Rodgers.

Smith found it “shocking” his fellow pundit ignored the quarter-back, 41, when assessing the last 12 months in NFL and especially the Jets‘ woeful year.

Greenberg unveiled his list of “Those who dropped the ball in 2024” on New Year’s Eve.

Unsurprisingly, the Jets topped that table of NFL failure – but many were stunned by the absence of Rodgers.

The ex-Super Bowl winner arrived from Green Bay Packers in April 2023 – supposedly to help his new team end years of pain.

Instead, both the veteran and the Jets have struggled.

In fact, some observers reckon retirement could be looming for Rodgers, particularly after he didn’t last the whole of last Sunday’s 40-14 defeat at Buffalo Bills.

But Greenberg neglected to single out Rodgers – with his focus on the Jets overall as he noted team owner Woody Johnson’s quote: “Thinking is overrated”.

Greeny then added: “The New York Jets of 2024 are gonna have to live with the fact that they are one of the great failures in recent sports memory, from top to bottom,”

Broadcasting colleague Smith was on vacation but still responded when there was no mention of Rodgers.

Smith posted: “Shocking! Never thought in my wildest dreams I’d accuse the one-and-only @Espngreeny for being SLICK just now on @GetUpESPN.

“He cannot have the @nyjets  No.1 on your list and NOT mention @AaronRodgers12. Come on, Greeny! But I love ya, Buddy.”

Greenberg later clarified his verdict – with a hint that Rodgers deserved SOME of the responsibility for the Jets’ plight.

He said: “There is more than enough blame to go around.”
