Tyler Herro and Amen Thompson are both facing NBA punishment after their fight on Sunday After getting in each other’s faces, Thompson violently threw Herro to the ground Four player and two staff members were ejected after the brawl

After the pair stood face to face and grabbed each other’s jerseys, Thompson suddenly and violently threw Herro to the floor.

Both benches leapt onto the court to get involved with Miami guard Terry Rozier and Houston coach Ime Udoka both in the thick of the skirmish.

As the players and staff were separated, Thompson and Herro could be seen jawing at each other.

SIX players and staff members were ejected from the game – Herro, Thompson, Udoka, Rozier, Rockets guard Jalen Green and Rockets assistant Ben Sullivan.

The Heat got the last laugh as Miami secured a 104-100 win, powered by 27 points, six rebounds and nine assists from Herro.

The Miami guard didn’t have much to say on the incident but fired a parting shot straight at Thompson, who was his primary defender for much of the game.

In his post-game interview Herro, wearing sunglasses, quipped: “Just two competitors going out there and playing basketball… It was just a physical game.

“Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing.

    “I’d get mad too.”

The NBA league office is yet to male a ruling on the fight but is expected to come down hard on those involved.

Rockets coach Udoka said: “I didn’t see a lot of it but I rewatched it.

“They were in each other’s faces, bumping chests a little bit. One guy is stronger than the other.”

Miami coach Erik Spoelstra added: “It just shows you how competitive things are in both conferences.

“They are fighting for their spot… It’s shame that that will be the discussion of the game because really it was more about the competitive character our guys brought and that toughness.

    New rights deal

The NBA signed an 11-year deal with three networks for the league's rights from the 2025-26 season.

And there will be no games on TNT for the first time since the network launched in 1988.

The Walt Disney Company will continue to show the league with 80 regular-season games across ESPN and ABC.

They will also show around 18 playoff games from the first and second round, a Conference Finals series for 10 of the 11 years, and remain the home of the NBA Finals.

NBC will return as an NBA broadcaster for the first time since 2002.

The network will show up to 100 games per season across it’s channels and Peacock streaming service.

It will also be the home of NBA All-Star and show approximately 28 playoff games from the first and second round.

NBC will show one Conference Finals Series for six of the 11 years, rotating with new broadcaster Amazon Prime.

Amazon will show 66 NBA regular-season games including one on Black Friday.

The streaming service is also the home of the latter stages of the NBA Cup and the entire Play-In Tournament.

Prime will also broadcast around one third of the playoff games in the first and second round.

“You know we are down 12, 14 in the second half.

“To be able to just battle and stay with it and you know find different ways to impact the game and put ourselves in a position to win.”

One viewer clearly enjoying the fight was former Houston guard Vernon Maxwell.

Nicknamed Mad Max, the fan favourite – who won a title in Houston in 1994 – was once suspended 10 games and $20,000 after jumping in the stands and punching a fan.

Maxwell said the fan had been heckling him over his stillborn daughter.

At the time, it was the highest fine the league had ever handed out and the  second-longest suspension.

On X, Maxwell joked he would PAY any fine that Thompson or other Rockets incurred because of the fight.

He wrote: “I love me some Amen Thompson. Put his fine on my tab Rockets.

“And I’ll take care of anyone else’s fine that stands up for their Rockets teammates.

“I love it!! Amen teach me some jiu jitsu young fella!

“Someone tell Machine Gun Kelly to leave Amen Thompson alone.”

“Miami got the dub tonight but they took the L in life. Can I get an Amen?”

He continued his comments on Tuesday, adding: “Hey Heat fans, 20 years from now do you think people will remember that Miami won a meaningless regular season game or that MGK got ragdolled across the floor?

“The game the other night should show that we might have a young team but you can’t disrespect or bully us.

“I can’t wait to be back courtside in 2025 to watch my young killas. Happy New Year Clutch City!!

“Also after speaking with Coach Ime (and my financial advisor) we have decided it’s not the greatest idea for me to offer to pay all future fines for the team.

“I don’t want to send the wrong message. Instead for each Rockets win I will donate $100 to a self defense class for MGK.”
