Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has dismissed suggestions the heavyweight broke rules in his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
The ‘Gypsy King’ was beaten by Usyk for the second time in their sequel in Saudi Arabia, as the scorecards saw the Ukrainian declared the victor by unanimous decision.
Prior to their latest meeting, there had been much controversy over the rules including over Fury fighting with a beard.
Usyk’s team had disputed that he shouldn’t be allowed to have one during the fight, a claim that was later refuted.
Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, had defended the Briton’s corner, and was even outraged by the final scorecards.
And in a new outburst, the Queensberry Promotions’ kingpin has now hit out at claims Fury broke the rules again, by having his shorts pulled up too high.
He said furiously on Box Nation: “One of the journalists talking about him wearing his shorts up to underneath his nipples… bulls**t is it.
“The referee came in the dressing room before the fight. The way he wore them was legal.
“Did you hear one complaint about that from the other side? None at all.
“Some idiot in there who knows nothing about boxing coming out with that and it’s just, I don’t know, I just find it ridiculous some of this stuff.”
He then added on Fury’s beard: “A non-issue. A total lot of c**p and a non-issue.
“If it was illegal, then they wouldn’t have allowed him to wear his beard.”
Fury cleared to fight with his beardGettyFury was cleared by the sanctioning bodies on both occasions of any rule breaks, and the fight unfolded in line with the rules.
Usyk also faced an inquest over the rules before the fight, with the Ukrainian having been banned from using his cross in the ring according to reports.
But he was actually seen with the object during his victory, while in the corner, despite fans’ previous conspiracy theories that he was using an inhaler which he vehemently denied.
Despite fears over the rules, the fight unfolded as planned with Usyk getting the nod from the judges.
Fury himself was extremely annoyed with the decision, and insisted it was a Christmas gift to his rival.
Warren shared that anger after the final bell, but has since reflected on the fight.
Fury’s future is up in the air but he was left unhappy with the judges’ decisionGettyAnd he believes that Fury still should have had his hand raised, but not by the margins he originally believed.
He said: “I still feel that Tyson won it, I think it’s much closer than I thought the first time, but I still thought he won it.
“I watched it again, and a lot of people involved in the sport who I consider to be quite knowledgeable, and I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable, having been doing it for 47 years and guided god knows how many champions in my time, I don’t see how one of the judges did not give Tyson one of the last seven rounds.
“I cannot see that. I watched it back and the other two judges each gave him a round each. I don’t understand that.
“It was a close fight, like the first fight. I thought Tyson would be stopping him this time, but it didn’t happen.”
