Angelina Jolie is “exhausted” but relieved after she and Brad Pitt reached a divorce deal, her lawyer has said.
The Hollywood actress, 49, filed for a divorce from Pitt, her husband of two years and partner since 2005, eight years ago.
Jolie’s lawyer James Simon said the divorce settlement has been finalised, signed and filed with the court.
He said: “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr Pitt.
“She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family.
“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
When she filed for divorce in 2016, Jolie cited irreconcilable differences and sought full physical custody of their six children, then aged 8 to 15, with visitation rights for Pitt, 61.
It later emerged during separate court proceedings that she had accused Pitt of being abusive to her and two of their children on a private jet that year.
Pitt was not charged following a police investigation into the incident and has denied the allegations.
His lawyers have not publicly commented on the divorce settlement.
The couple had been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute, in which both sides accused each other of trying to manipulate media coverage in their favour.
They agreed a joint arrangement in 2021 through a private judge, granting equal custody of their children.
The divorce filing says they give up the right to any future spousal financial support, but gives no other details. A judge will need to sign off on the agreement.
“She doesn’t speak ill of him publicly or privately. She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time,” a source close to the actress was cited as saying in the lawyer’s statement.
The children had wanted her to “speak up for herself, to defend herself over these years,” the source added.
The couple met on the set of the 2005 film Mr and Mrs Smith and their relationship garnered international media attention. Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston in 2003 when he and Jolie co-starred in the film.
Jolie dismissed reports of an affair and told Vogue they were only “very, very good friends” until Pitt and Aniston split in 2005.
Jolie was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
The actress’s latest film is a biopic, titled Maria, about opera singer Maria Callas.
Pitt has this year been spotted filming a Formula One movie titled F1, in which he will play veteran driver Sonny Hayes.
