Punjab’s very own captain Abhishek Sharma has put on a spectacular show at the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Tuesday. The opening batter has scored a fast century in the match against Saurashtra, held at the Gujarat College Cricket Ground ‘A’ in Ahmedabad. Leading the Punjab team, Abhishek played a brilliant innings; by the time of writing, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off just 62 balls, he’s still not out. His knock included 13 fours and 5 sixes, with a striking rate of 169.35, putting Punjab in a strong position. With this knock, Abhishek is surely showing the selectors that he’s ready for the Champions Trophy challenge.
Partnership with Prabhsimran Singh
Alongside Abhishek, Prabhsimran Singh also played a crucial innings. He scored 73 runs off 65 balls, not out, with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Singh’s innings complemented Abhishek’s aggressive batting and helped keep the run rate high. Together, they formed an explosive opening partnership, pushing Punjab’s score to 183 without loss in 21 overs.
Exploiting the conditions
Both Abhishek and Prabhsimran took full advantage of the favourable conditions, punishing any loose balls from the Saurashtra bowlers. Their confident stroke play entertained and kept the pressure on the opposition throughout their partnership.
