Katy Perry's newest album, 143, has faced a face share of criticism and controversy, and after the recent release of the deluxe edition, 1432, a former American Idol contestant shared a bold reaction to a new track that quickly went viral.
Steven James, a singer who appeared on the popular competition show years ago but unfortunately was eliminated, took to TikTok to share a blunt statement about the song "OK," one of four extra songs on the deluxe album.

In the clip, James sat in a car as the song played over the video, looking irritated and tired. His expression then changed to a suppressed smirk as he looked around and furrowed his eyebrows. Text over the clip read, "This can't be the same person who eliminated me on American Idol 5 years ago."
@stevenjamestoks ♬ OK - Katy PerryBased on James' expression, the comment didn't appear to be intended as a positive review and an overwhelming number of fans agreed, with one top-liked comment re-iterating, "Cant be the same woman who made 'Teenage Dream' and 'Wide Awake' ???."
A couple of more popular responses compared it to music written for the opening sequences of popular TV shows. "It's giving the Arthur theme song ?," one quipped, while another said, "This sounds like it was written for a Degrassi reboot ?."
Someone else joked, "Katy, this is not OK."
Still, not everyone was disappointed by her latest drop, with a handful of social media users defending the 40-year-old Grammy-nominated artist and former American Idol judge.
"Why do people hate this song?" one asked. "It’s good."
"Yes, she is [the same woman]," another added. "And that song is really good."
James later admitted, "It’s growing on me tbh."
Before its release, Perry responded to backlash over her working with producer Dr Luke after the lawsuit with Kesha. Upon its release, Perry's latest album was panned by critics and fans. It debuted at number six on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and dropped off the chart two weeks later.
