A COLLEGE football game devolved into chaos after a massive brawl broke out between two teams.

North Carolina State versus East Carolina saw multiple players ejected after a brutal fight.

The game between the Wolfpack and the Purple Pirates made it all the way until the final minute before the chaos ensued.

The two teams started throwing hands just before ECU secured their win against NC State.

NC State and ECU are in-state rivals, only being located 80 miles apart from each other.

However, no one expected tempers to flare as high as they did.

“I’m embarrassed as a coach,” NC State coach Dave Doeren said.

“I know our players are too. That is not how people of this program, the players of this program, staff of this program, want anything to do with something like that.

“To me, it was a terrible response to something that happened to one of our players, and there’s no excuses for it.

“So I apologize to ECU and their team for the way we responded.”

East Carolina wide receiver Yannick Smith appeared to grab a towel from NC State defensive back Tamarcus Cooley, who started to chase after it.

That made it to the sideline where the fight eventually broke out.

“Obviously, didn’t like the last little bit of the game,” Pirates coach Blake Harrell said.

“No place in sports for that.”

In total, eight players combined between the two teams were ejected from the game.

A referee was also left bloodied while trying to break up the brawl.

The scenes left college football fans baffled and they shared their shock on social media.

“This is why we can’t have nice things,” one fan said.

“Another sad example of coaches not having control of their teams,” another fan said.

“If these players can get paid then they can get fined. Fine them so it’s a percentage of their NIL earnings to keep it fair,” a third fan said.

“It’s a damn good thing the fans didn’t storm the field or else it could have been way worse!” a fourth fan said.

“Thanks for disrespecting the game, the Military Bowl, and the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium,” a fifth fan said.

While the game settled down and eventually game to an end, the story might not be over yet.

Fans should keep an eye out for August 30 when the two teams play each other again for their season-opener.
