Squid Game fans have much to celebrate after a second season of the show arrived on Boxing Day and 2025 holds the promise of a third.
The highly popular South Korean show has already topped the Netflix chart across the globe coming in at number one in the 93 countries it is available when the second season debuted.
All seven episodes of the second series of the Emmy-nominated Squid Game were available to stream from Thursday 26 December.
Now it has been revealed a third season of the dystopian survival series has already been filmed and is due for release.

The first season of the show, released in 2021, became Netflix’s most-watched series and the most-watched program in 93 countries.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series director, told Deadline earlier this month: “I wrote seasons two and three at the same time, and we were in production for both simultaneously, and currently we are in the post-production process for season three.”
He has since gone on to write an open letter to fans confirming there will be a third season but it will also be the last.
He wrote: “I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for season two and share the news of season three, the final season.
“The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with season three, which will be brought to you next year.”

Hwang stated in his letter to fans that season three would be released in 2025.
Drilling down into the detail, the creator and director also indicated viewers can expect to see it on their Netflix schedule in the summer or autumn of next year.
In an interview with Variety, he said: “At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious.
“But what I can say is, after season two launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for season three soon.
“I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”

The second season has seen Player 456 give up on going to the States and return to the game with a new resolution.
Hardened Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is forced to play a new set of games and becomes locked in a tense battle with the shadowy Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), whose true motivations have remained cloaked in secrecy.
Gi-hun came back to the deadly games with one goal in mind – to end the horrifying competition once and for all.
But by the end of the seventh episode, he has reached his lowest ebb after losing his best friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).
His allies and friends have been murdered in the rebellion and his dream of overthrowing the guards seems to be dead as well.
Actor Lee Jung-jae told Tudum: “The end of season two is going to make people more curious about how Gi-hun will do in the game now that this traumatic event has happened to him.
“After what’s happened to his friend, can he still maintain his objective of saving the other people in the game?”
Director Hwang said this is an integral moment for Gi-hun.
He said :“You realise that Gi-hun’s attempts to put an end to the game have failed — in two ways.
“First, he wasn’t able to persuade his fellow players to stop Squid Game through voting.
“Then Gi-hun failed at trying to use physical power and strength to go up against those that were hosting the game.”
But the Squid Game creator has promised audiences season three will reveal where this “state of deep despair” pushes Gi-hun.
“Is he still going to believe that he will be able to persuade others and leave together or put an end to the game?”, Hwang said, “Or will he give in and become a completely different person? Someone just like the Front Man, who thinks, ‘What can I change?’ “
Hwang has described season three the “second chapter of Gi-hun and Front Man’s showdown”.
And in his letter to fans, he added: “I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story.
“We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”
