The Chicago Bulls announced on Saturday afternoon that Ayo Dosunmu will be sidelined for over a week.
The guard sustained a right calf strain during the team’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 23. He sat out the Bulls’ following game against the Hawks before entering today as questionable for the team’s second meeting in three games with Milwaukee. According to the team, Dosunmu will now have to re-evaluated in 10 days due to the injury.

Under the Bulls’ current timeline, Dosunmu will miss at least the team’s next five games. They play the Bucks, Hornets, Wizards, Knicks, and Spurs ahead of Dosunmu’s re-evaluation period. And, unfortunately, a re-evaluation doesn’t mean he will be given the green light to return for the Bulls’ game against the Pacers on Jan. 8. If anything, Dosunmu will likely require a ramp-up period and could very well miss a couple of additional games.
The injury comes at a frustrating time for Dosunmu, who had been finding a rhythm after a slow start to the year. He had averaged 14.5 points, 5.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals over his previous 12 contests. Billy Donovan had also inserted him into the starting lineup on Nov. 22 and has leaned on him in the absence of other injured played.
The good news for Chicago is they have plenty of options in the backcourt to plug Dosunmu’s minutes. The bad news is that none of these players offer the same two-way skills and transition speed. Likewise, Dosunmu isn’t the only guard currently on the injury report. Both Lonzo Ball (illness) and Josh Giddey (ankle) are at risk of missing the team’s Saturday night meeting with the Bucks.
