Weld County’s high school athletes are no strangers to success.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that 2024 marked another year of multiple state title wins by local teams. Seven teams rose to the top of the state high school sports scene this year, not to mention the teams that came close and the several individual accomplishments by local athletes.

In March, Roosevelt girls basketball secured a 69-63 win over Northfield in the Class 5A finals, finishing the season with a 26-2 record and the team’s second consecutive state championship. In 1A, Briggsdale girls basketball clinched the program’s second state title in its history with a 41-40 win against Stratton High School.

In June, Eaton baseball capped a second consecutive undefeated season and claimed the Class 3A team’s fourth straight state title with a 6-5 win against rival University.

In October, Eaton softball earned its third consecutive title with an 8-6 win in the Class 3A championship game against University, capping a 26-3 record for the season.

A month later, Northridge unified bowling recorded a team score of 651 to claim the second team state title in the school’s 24-year history to finish an undefeated season.

Finally, the University and Roosevelt poms teams won state titles at the spirit championships earlier this month. University’s title in Class 2A/3A was its sixth poms title and seventh overall spirit championship. Roosevelt won its fourth consecutive title in Class 4A.
