A festive trip to the fictional town of Shipton Abbott promises a supernatural experience in this year’s Beyond Paradise Christmas special.
The popular BBC One crime series is back for a one-off yuletide episode which will feature the ghost of Christmases past.
Kris Marshall, who stars as DI Humphrey Goodman, said: “Humphrey doesn’t rule anything out, but he’s always up for a challenge.
“He loves unusual cases – anything out of the ordinary, whether it’s ghosts, or just something strange.
“He enjoys getting stuck into these mysteries and picking them apart.”
And if that is not enough of a gift for fans of the Death in Paradise spin-off, 2025 will see a third series of the show return to our screens.
Fan will be pleased to hear a new third series of Beyond Paradise is slated to return in April 2025.
The new series promised to offer more intriguing puzzles for the Shipton Abbott team to solve.
While Humphrey and Martha, who nearly tied the knot last series, continue their fostering journey.
Tim Key, executive producer, said: “We are delighted to be back in the beautiful South West, filming what promises to be our strongest series yet, packed full of mysteries, surprises, challenges and lots of heart.
“We love making the show and the audience response to it is fantastic, and it’s especially exciting to welcome back Jamie Bamber to Shipton Abbott – we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been up to.”
Set against the backdrop of the countryside and coast of Devon and Cornwall, new cases will include a body found in the river on the county border, a chocolate box poisoning, a historic farming feud and a spiking incident on the water.
Away from the police station, Martha and Humphrey must overcome unexpected hurdles as foster parents, while the reappearance of Martha’s old flame Archie presents an unexpected challenge.
Esther navigates a surprise encounter in her private life, a health scare for Anne stirs up painful memories and Kelby embarks on a journey of personal growth.

The Beyond Paradise Christmas special airs on BBC One on Friday 27 December.
The hour-long episode makes a festive foray into the world of the supernatural.
When a widower starts seeing the ghost of his late wife, DI Humphrey Goodman and the team are called in to investigate.
For those who want to watch it on catch-up, the show will also be available on the BBC iPlayer.
Who is returning to the cast in series three?
At the helm of series three will be DI Humphrey Goodman, ably-assisted by DS Esther Williams and PC Kelby Hartford.
DI Goodman’s fiancee Martha Lloyd will also be at his side as they continue their fostering journey as a couple.

Kris Marshall leads the cast as DI Humphrey Goodman, who has left the island of Saint Marie to be with fiancee Martha in her hometown of Shipton Abbott in Devon in Beyond Paradise.
Marshall, 51, is no stranger to Christmas specials having been part of the ensemble cast for the 2003 festive favourite Love Actually.
But his major breakthrough role came as Nick Harper in the BBC sitcom My Family.
He first starred as DI Goodman in 2013 in the long-running series Death in Paradise, before leaving in 2017 to be replaced by Ardal O’Hanlon. The spin-off series Beyond Paradise began in 2023.

Bretton, 44, rose to fame in the sitcom Green Wing as Kim Alabaster.

She appeared most recently as Zoe Dalton in the Channel 5 thriller The Au Pair.

Zhara Ahmadi plays DS Esther Williams and will be returning for series three of Beyond Paradise.
Ahmadi, 42, is best known for playing the original Shabnam Masood in EastEnders.
She appeared as Sinem in the BBC sitcom Count Arthur Strong and Clare Itani in the US series Berlin Station.
Before Beyond Paradise, she also appeared in the original Death in Paradise as Daisy Anderson.
Dylan Llewellyn

Llewellyn, 32, rose of fame as Martin “Jono” Johnson in the soap Hollyoaks.
From 2018 to 2022, he played James Maguire in the Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls.
And since 2022, he has appeared as Jack in the Channel 4 series Big Boys.
