Sameer Rizvi proved to be bit of a dud this year in the IPL, where for CSK, in eight matches he could only score 51 runs. And that was the very reason why he wasn’t retained by the franchise, ahead of the IPL Auction. But then, it seems to be a complete turnaround for the youngster, who was bagged by DC for INR 95 lakh only.
The 21-year-old has been on a rampage in age-group cricket, where in the U-23 State A Trophy, he has scored 728 runs in only six innings, at an average of 242. In the first match against Pondicherry, he scored 137 from 69, then vs HP he scored 153 from 114. Against Tripura he smashed 201 from 97 and vs Vidarbha, got to 202 in 105 deliveries. That is some performance, that DC won’t be able to ignore.
HE IS HIM! 728 runs in 6 innings, averaging 242.67 — Unprecedented from Sam pic.twitter.com/0OuFTtgsK4
— Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) December 26, 2024To top it all, his 201 vs Vidarbha ensured that UP chased down a record 407, by eight wickets. Most importantly, they crossed the finish line, all thanks to Sameer Rizvi, with over eight overs to spare. This performance, truth be told, will be enough for him to not only get a position in the playing XI for IPL 2025, but could be batting ahead of the likes of Abhishek Porel, Harry Brook, and even Tristan Stubbs.
Look, KL Rahul would be slotted as the opener for sure, and perhaps a Jake Fraser-Mcgurk could be at the top, but Sameer Rizvi, after this performance, should not be batting lower than No. 4. In fact, he could emerge as the surprise factor, as most teams would not have seen much of him.
