17-year-old killed in stabbing identified as Azusa High School student and a talented artist

A family member identified a 17-year-old girl who was stabbed to death Friday, Dec. 20, as an Azusa High School senior who the Azusa Unified School District described as an award-winning artist and a dedicated member of the cheer squad and wrestling team.

Angelina Gonzales was found suffering from multiple stab wounds around 10 p.m. in the 300 block of North Solano Avenue, just west of the Azusa High School West Campus.

    Paramedics transported Gonzales to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Azusa Police Department.

    After winning first place this year at the 31st District Congressional Art Competition, and the  Judge’s Choice Award in 2022, Gonzales’ work has been displayed at the U.S. Capitol, the school district said in a statement.

    “Her creative talents and vibrant personality enriched our community in countless ways,” the district said.

    Homicide investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department took over the investigation.

    An 18-year-old male who knew Gonzales was taken into custody Saturday. Officials didn’t confirm the nature of their relationship.
