Army running back Kanye Udoh, one of the most productive backs outside Power 4, announced his transfer to ASU after a Tempe visit on Friday.
Udoh will likely compete with ASU’s Kyson Brown and Raleek Brown for first-team reps as bell cow Cam Skattebo is out of eligibility and likely headed for the NFL.
He will have two seasons of eligibility left when part of the Sun Devils’ running back room next year.
The 6-foot, 215-pound back rushed for 1,641 yards in two seasons in West Point, including 1,117 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and 10 touchdowns for this season’s 11-2 squad.

Udoh had five games reaching the century mark, including a season-high 158 yards and two touchdowns against Air Force. He reached the mark in all three of his games with at least 18 carries.
Due to Army’s run-first offensive approach, however, it’s not clear how much Udoh can impact the receiving game (two catches for three yards in his career).
He was On3 Sports‘ No. 12 running back in the portal and No. 22 by 247 Sports. It’s a vast improvement from his No. 1840 overall ranking in the 2022 class.
Why was there controversy surrounding Kanye Udoh’s transfer portal entry?
Army coach Jeff Monken claimed exploratory tampering was part of why Udoh landed in the transfer portal.
“I think there were some things going on, feelers being put out through other channels,’’ Monken told reporters. “It’s not permissible for coaches to contact other players at other colleges directly, but through other channels. I think that just kind of got him thinking about the opportunities (at) other places.’’

Monken is the cousin of Todd Monken, who ASU offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo credits with mentoring him.
When Udoh set his visits, he landed on other visits to Missouri, SMU and North Carolina, with Tempe coming prior to Chapel Hill.
He notably struck down a report saying he was committed to the Tar Heels and new coach Bill Belichick earlier in the week.
With Udoh and two wide receivers in the fold, the Sun Devils are inching closer to a refreshed group of offensive playmakers.
