Texas could be without a key player against Clemson in the College Football Playoff

Texas could be without a key offensive weapon when they face Clemson in the opening round of the College Football Playoff. Wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who has been battling a high ankle sprain for weeks, is unlikely to play on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Bond aggravated the injury during the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, limiting his availability in practice. Thamel noted that Bond’s chances of playing are slim, though there is hope he could return if the Longhorns advance to face Arizona State on Jan. 1.

Earlier in the season, Bond was a vital part of Texas’ passing game, amassing 30 receptions for 483 yards and five touchdowns over nine games. Without him, Texas will likely lean on freshman Ryan Wingo to fill the void in the slot.

Wingo, a highly touted five-star recruit who was heavily pursued by Clemson during the 2024 recruiting cycle, has contributed 24 catches for 395 yards this year. His performance could be crucial for Texas as they take on the Tigers with a semifinal berth on the line.
