Tyler Perry wears a lot of hats. He's an actor, writer, producer and director behind films like The Six Triple Eight and Mea Culpa. Perry's only child, Aman Perry, was born on Nov. 30, 2014. The name Aman means "peace," and also represents "the true meaning of Thanksgiving, and of course the holiday season," a source close to Perry told People shortly after Aman's birth.
"I have traveled the world trying to find the peace that I have when I'm holding my sleeping son in my arms. God thank you! Amen for Aman. He's beautiful!!" Perry wrote in an Instagram post of his son's crib only a couple of months after Aman was born.

Aman's mother is model, filmmaker and activist Gelila Bekele. She and Perry dated from 2014 to 2020, but remain close friends and committed to raising their son together, despite having broken up.
Perry has talked a lot about working with Gelila to keep Aman humble. They are both committed to making sure their son understands the value of money and Perry says that Gelila is instrumental in helping him with that.
"I think, when you have a team like Gelila and I are, she is very grounded and balanced at making sure he stays that way. Because I want to give him everything, because I didn't have it," he said during a 2022 Q&A with Gayle King at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Perry emphasized instilling those values in Aman in an interview with AARP The Magazine later that year.
"I want him to know what it's like to have his own name and his own life and not have the pressure of trying to live up to whatever or whoever your father was," he said.
Aman flies coach when the family travels
Tyler Perry has a private jet that gets him around to his various sets and business obligations, but Aman does not get the same kind of luxury. According to a recent interview with People, when the little boy was six years old, he started demanding to fly on his father's plane and Perry knew the behavior needed to be stopped.
"For about four years, he flew with her commercial in coach so that he could understand," Perry told the outlet. "We both are very clear-eyed about him not being this spoiled kid," Perry adds. "And when you start seeing hints of that, that's got to be nipped in the bud right away."

Aman may have to fly commercial when he travels, but he can at least brag about his cool godparents. The late Cecily Tyson and the ultimate gift-giver Oprah Winfrey are godparents to Tyler Perry's little boy.
Perry revealed during a 2022 visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show that Oprah sends Aman the best books.
"My son's not online and things like that, he doesn't have an iPad," the producer revealed. "He gets to watch some things on the iPad, maybe 30 minutes every now and then, but the books. [Winfrey] sends great gifts."

Does Tyler Perry have any godchildren?
Tyler Perry is also a famous godparent in his own right. He is godfather to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, Lilibet Diana. Perry's godparent status was revealed in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.
"I go, 'OK, what's going on?' They said, 'Well, we'd like for you to be Lili's godfather.' I go, 'Whoa.' I had to take a minute to take that in," the director shared. "And I thought, 'I'd be honored. I'd absolutely be honored'," Perry recounted in the docuseries. Lilibet was christened in a private ceremony at Harry and Meghan's home in Montecito, California.
Perry told Kelly Ripa during a 2023 appearance on her Let's Talk Off-Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast that he calls his goddaughter "Little Lili."
"She's so adorable. Oh, she's so beautiful. She's just so beautiful," Perry said in the interview. "They make beautiful babies—that's all I'll say. They make some beautiful kids. Archie and Lili are beautiful."
