Time to show off your wickedly good singing chops, as Wicked dropped a buzzed-about sing-along version of its film soundtrack on Friday (Dec. 20) via Universal Pictures / Republic Records / Verve Records.
Fans can channel their inner Ariana Grande as Glinda or Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba as they sing along with the film’s cinematic orchestra and cast of background vocalists. On Christmas Day, Universal Pictures will also release sing-along screenings of Wicked in more than 1000 theaters across the United States, Canada and select international markets.Tickets for the Wicked sing-along screenings are on sale now here.
The updated version of the soundtrack arrives following a historic first month for Wicked, which has become the highest-grossing movie based on a Broadway musical ever at the domestic box office, with more than $359 million so far. The soundtrack has also been doing numbers, recently opening at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 — the highest ever debut for a big-screen adaptation of a stage musical on the chart.
Both Grande and Erivo scored Golden Globe nominations, with Erivo up for best performance by a female actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy, while Grande is nominated for best supporting actress. Wicked as a whole earned Critic’s Choice Awards nods for best picture and best acting ensemble.
