Jalon Walker isn’t too concerned about the prospect of going into the College Football Playoff with Gunner Stockton leading the way for Georgia.
Walker, who won the Butkus Award for his play this season, spoke about Georgia’s quarterback situation on the Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday afternoon. He expressed confidence in Stockton as regular starter Carson Beck remains questionable with an elbow injury he suffered in the SEC Championship Game.
“When Gunner Stockton stepped on the field, I had no doubt,” Walker said. “I came in with Gunner together as freshmen and I always had confidence in him. He’s played big-time football because he sees it every day. He does a great job preparing himself mentally and physically for what he has to do for the game and I feel like he’ll be fine.
“I feel like our team will have Gunner’s back no matter what happens. And I feel like we’ll be put in the best position by him and the offense.”

— Paul Finebaum (@finebaum) December 19, 2024Sometime after Walker made those comments to Finebaum, it was reported by On3’s Pete Nakos that Beck is unlikely to play in Georgia’s first-round CFP game in a couple of weeks. Beck is believed to have suffered an injury to his UCL and Georgia previously said he is “exploring treatment options.”
Beck does not have much game experience at UGA besides the second half against the Longhorns in the SEC title game. He did complete 12-of-16 pass attempts vs. Texas, but those completions went for just 71 yards.
Georgia will face the winner of Indiana-Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1.
