Clemson lands transfer commitment from ex-Purdue pash rusher Will Heldt

Clemson is on a roll in the transfer portal.

After landing a transfer commitment from wide receiver Tristan Smith earlier this week, Dabo Swinney and his staff have now made a big addition on the defensive side of the ball. Clemson beat out Texas A&M and a few other top programs for Purdue defensive lineman Will Heldt.

Heldt has officially signed with Clemson:

Heldt is believed to be the first defensive transfer to ever sign with Clemson in the portal era. Swinney has been famously adverse to taking transfers over the past few seasons, but his philosophy seems to be shifting on that matter.

Heldt is an excellent defensive addition for the Tigers. He record 10 tackles for loss and 5 sacks for Purdue in 2023, finishing the year 2nd on the team in both categories.

Heldt is also a very young player with room to improve. He was a 3-star prospect in the class of 2023, but became an immediate contributor in West Lafayette. He’s ranked 30th in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings as of publication and still has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.

As Clemson builds its roster for 2025, the Tigers are also preparing to face Texas in the College Football Playoff on Saturday night.
