Today, a delivery truck from an office supply company pulled into my church parking lot. The driver cheerfully stepped out of the cab and proceeded to load a dolly with a couple of boxes of paper. These weren’t exactly festive presents.
Yet, she smiled as I held the door open for her and wished “Merry Christmas” as she wheeled past. Her cadence carried a melody, and her eyes twinkled, which, ‘tis the season, brought to mind Old Saint Nick.
Upon reflection, she inspires me to express my gratitude for the ordinary saints who quietly improve our lives every day—a fact I realize whenever I open my awareness.
So many exceptional people work exceptionally hard every day, and especially so this time of year, to make the everyday possible and the holiday even more special.
So let’s take a moment today to thank a delivery person, whether an employee of the US Postal Service, FedEx, or Amazon. You might gift your gratitude after a delivery to your home, office, or place of business. Whenever you come across these hard-working folks, may they deliver their packages with a sprinkling of holiday magic.
