Here is why some radio talk shows and podcasting are out of control.

A shock jock on a Jacksonville radio station claims that Bill Belichick will leave UNC after five weeks and force the promotion of his son Stephen to head coach.

“I don’t think he’s ever going to coach a game there,” said Jeff “Jags” McNicol of 1010XL in Florida. “I think he’ll be there for five weeks, and an NFL owner will call … because there’s gonna be eight openings and all eight of these owners are gonna say, ‘What are we going to do now?

“You’re going to see some interest in Belichick. I think he did this for leverage and it’s the perfect scenario because he can be there for five weeks and leave North Carolina basically high and dry, and they have no choice but to promote his son Steve to be head coach when he leaves them on January 15.”

McNicol treats Carolina with ignorance and appalling disrespect.

Does he know the albeit-curious buyout drops from $10 million to $1 million after June 1, long after any NFL would still need a new coach? While we don’t know where UNC is getting the highest salary ever paid to a coach, Belichick has little leverage to walk away and force the promotion of his son, Steve, who is yet to be hired as defensive coordinator.

If that ridiculous and outrageous scenario proves true, how could Bubba Cunningham entrust his football program to the son of such a quitter? He would make Freddie Kitchens the permanent coach and limp into the 2025 season with a totally dysfunctional program.

Granted, Belichick has a sordid reputation in pro football due to jealousy over the six Super Bowl championships he won in New England and the trouble the Patriots franchise got into under his watch. But after telling his life story about his childhood years in Chapel Hill and his affinity for the Tar Heels ever since, would he dare pull off such a scam?

Where do these media provocateurs come from and how do they keep their jobs? The dozens of comments that followed McNichol’s “theory” shows why he has created a hell storm from Florida to North Carolina and beyond and portrays UNC as such a sucker.

At 72 years old, is this really how Belichick would finish his coaching career and be sent into football purgatory forever?

Do the NFL Jaguars want a new coach so badly that their hometown radio station would promote such ludicrous speculation? But, as you can also see from the comments, some haters will continue to jump in with offensive speculation about the Tar Heels’ new head coach and his personal life after he has written the biggest story of this, or any, off-season.

Unfortunately, only if and when Belichick makes Carolina a big winner will such an absurd conversation turn into poppycock.
