Professor Nikola Vucevic, reporting for duty!
The Chicago Bulls big man put on his teaching cap in a sitdown film session with CHGO’s Will Gottlieb. Vucevic broke down a handful of clips from his strong start to the season, mapping out everything from pick-and-rolls to trailing threes to offensive putbacks. Not only did it show a side of Vucevic fans haven’t seen before, but it did a fantastic job revealing the nuance behind every trip down the court.
Basketball moves fast. It’s easy to forget how calculated each possession is and how many different options every play offers. Vucevic did a great job outlining the domino effect that can come from a single play call, as well as the thought process that goes into making a judgment call at full speed. We don’t often get to see a player of Vucevic’s caliber break things down in this much detail, and I tip my cap to Gottlieb for setting this up.
Honestly, my favorite part is listening to Vucevic critique himself. Multiple times the veteran points out a better decision he could have made either with or without the ball. It’s a taste – albeit a small taste – of what I’m sure he spends many hours doing behind the scenes.
