Denver weather: Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for high winds in foothills

Denver (KDVR) — Sunshine and warm conditions continue to dominate the Denver weather forecast, but high winds persist across portions of the state. High temperatures on Wednesday will be more than 10 degrees above average.

Wednesday evening is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for strong wind that will increase in the foothills later tonight. The wind event will mostly impact a narrow area of the foothills, mainly above 9,000 feet.

    The Denver metro area is not included in the high wind area, and conditions should improve quickly by morning. Gusts between 30 to 55 mph are forecasted in the foothills through 3 a.m. Thursday, and could create blowing snow in some locations. Any outdoor items should be secured before this evening's wind event

    Mostly sunny skies continue to dominate as highs will max out in the middle 50s. Winds will be coming out of the southwest anywhere from 5-15 mph.

    Partly cloudy skies move into Denver as overnight lows will sink into the upper 20s and lower 30s.

    It will be breezy at times with gusts overnight maxing out at around 30 mph.

    Looking ahead: Warmer end to the week

    More sunshine will aid in a warming trend on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures on Thursday will climb to the upper 50s, then 60 degrees on Friday.

    The winter solstice on Saturday will bring in the official start of winter, but temperatures will stay well above normal, reaching the upper 50s on both Saturday and Sunday.

    Temperatures will dip slightly for the start of next week but stay mild as Christmas Eve approaches next Tuesday.
