Vrabel Rumors, Jaylon’s Missing “C”, O-Line Implosion, and Other Bears Bullets

I can’t stop thinking about how great giardiniera is as a pizza topping and I figured it made sense to share it here. Maybe some of you will share your favorite toppings with me in the comments.

Yes, we saw the stuff about Mike Vrabel and the Chicago Bears. But I feel as if Bears Wire’s Brendan Sugrue summarized it perfectly (to the point where we can just share this at the top and move on with our day):

Breer said he THINKS Vrabel is at the top of the Bears list and believes those two names could be options at OC.He was very clear that he was only giving his opinion and wasn't speaking facts. t.co/BWWlKpGqb9

    — Brendan Sugrue (@BrendanSugrue) December 17, 2024 One of the biggest challenges in a given offseason is following all the worthwhile rumors. I use the word worthwhile as a qualifier because there are so many rumors that fly in every possible direction that not all of them are worth re-sharing or even offering up an expanded set of thoughts. Listening comprehension and media literacy will be so important in the coming days, weeks, and (possibly?) months ahead. Who knows how long this coaching search will take? Months? Yeah, I said months. This nugget in Jeff Hughes’ Week 15 preview at Da Bears Blog caught my attention:

Ben Johnson’s people have made it clear to the Bears that he’s interested. But the process of communication with Johnson will be complicated by the (expected) deep playoff run for the Lions. Would the Bears be okay waiting for Johnson till after a Super Bowl? “Yes,” I was told, unequivocally, if he’s the guy.

There are times in life when patience is required to get the thing you truly want most and/or is best for you. Does playing the waiting game stink? Absolutely. Does it feel like that thing will never come? Yeah, shaking that feeling feels impossible. But we should remember that there is no by-the-book way of doing it the right way. Mark Potash of the Sun-Times tweets that the Chiefs hired Andy Reid four days after firing his predecessor. On the other side of the coin, the Vikings hired Kevin O’Connell 37 days after parting ways with Mike Zimmer. All I’m saying is that the Bears shouldn’t rush into something just because it feels good or looks right. Make the best hire in whatever time frame it takes and let the chips fall where they may. I just can’t get enough of this account:

    — ArtButMakeItSports (@artbutmakeitsports.bsky.social) December 17, 2024 at 9:28 AM I do not believe there are any images that better capture what it is like to be a Chicago Bears rookie quarterback. The captain’s “C” was missing from Jaylon Johnson’s uniform on Monday Night Football. Did you notice it? I will admit that I didn’t make the realization until reading this story via 670 The Score. Add it to the list of storylines that could unfold only in a given Chicago Bears season. On the other side of the ball, Kevin Fishbain (The Athletic) writes about how the Bears’ offensive line needs were on full display on Monday Night Football. We saw the team fire Matt Eberflus less than 24 hours after suffering public humiliation in a loss on national TV. Maybe that is what it will take for this franchise to get its act together. Bears QB Caleb Williams / Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-Imagn Images Jason Lieser (Sun-Times) points out the Bears are 2-14 against the NFC North since GM Ryan Poles’ infamous “take the North” comments. Don’t get me wrong. I love it when someone makes a bold proclamation. But at some point, your actions need to match your words. Otherwise, your words hold no weight. Something fun to watch in Week 16 via Pro Football Talk: The Buffalo Bills can become the first team in NFL history to score 30+ points in nine consecutive games in one season. That would be a fun anecdote to add to Joe Brady’s already impressive résumé.

OPE! I see that the Chicago White Sox changed their ballpark name … again. Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine is reportedly drawing “significant” interest from the Denver Nuggets. Perhaps there is a trade to be made between these two teams. Tab Bamford has three stars and key takeaways from another Chicago Blackhawks win.
