Nobody injured in fire at oil and gas site in south Windsor

Windsor Severance Fire Rescue is still investigating the cause of a fire Monday afternoon at an oil and gas facility in south Windsor.

Nobody was injured in the fire, according to the agency, which responded to the blaze at 2:54 p.m. Crews had the fire contained in about an hour.

The blaze — which was at an Extraction Oil & Gas site just within town limits near East Crossroads Boulevard and Weld County Road 15 — was burning a separator, which separates oil, gas, water and other elements of crude oil.

When crews arrived, they worked to cool surrounding separators so the fire wouldn’t spread and oversaw employees of the oil company extract the remaining crude oil from the separator.

Civitas Resources, Inc., the parent company of Extraction Oil & Gas, operates a real-time monitoring system that notified its team of the fire, which was contained to the pad site, and initiated a remote shut-in, according to a statement from Civitas Public Affairs Manager Rich Coolidge.

“Civitas safety personnel worked closely with the first responders on-scene to ensure the site was secured and the fire was extinguished as quickly as possible,” the statement reads. “All state and local regulators were immediately notified. The cooperation resulted in no injuries and with minimal structural damage limited only to the pad site, as designed. Civitas will quickly submit our full report to regulators to share the findings and results of the incident.”
