McDonald's quietly launched a new "On the Go" restaurant concept, the first of its kind in its domestic market.
The new move was reportedly inspired by the beloved burger joint's way of doing things at its international locations, according to information shared with the popular food blogger known online as McFranchisee, who was also one of the first to tip fans off.

Included in the influencer's Dec. 12 post to X (formerly Twitter) were several photos of the new restaurant concept that recently opened in Los Angeles as well as a brief rundown of what customers could expect should they pay a visit to the "1st ever" McDonald's On the Go.
"It appears to be: Drive thru focused," McFranchisee explained, noting that it is a manned storefront with employees ready to help at the pickup window since there is "no lobby."

— McFranchisee (@McFranchisee) December 13, 2024But the "biggest deal" is the presence of "McDelivery lockers," which are popular with Golden Arches fans around the world as they allow third-party delivery services to expedite food pick up and get it where it needs to be, but according to the blogger, had yet to be "approved for the system" McDonald's uses at locations within U.S. limits—until now.
We had a lot of lockers at our convention ( #McDWW24 ) but they were only for international markets. This is big for our market. pic.twitter.com/S8oWKzMblT
— McFranchisee (@McFranchisee) December 13, 2024Since news of the prototype—reportedly stationed at the intersection of Artesia and Woodruff in Bellflower, located in the southeast section of the California city—broke over the weekend, fans seem pretty ecstatic over the "innovative" new restaurant.
"Great to see this first 'on the go' @McDonaldsCorp opening in LA," one X user wrote. "We need a @cosmcs next."
"Fascinating," a second shared. "Saw the locker concepts at a ton of fast food concepts in Korea (Lotteria for example, wonder how they’ll work here)."
"I like this a lot!" one more wrote in part, hoping it also means the company is open to expanding its '80s-inspired spinoff restaurant, CosMcs, currently operating in limited markets.
A few others expressed concern about what the digital order-focused changes meant for McDonald's workers in terms of automation and jobs, with some debating whether or not the new technology would make workers more efficient or replace them completely.
So far, the burger giant has remained relatively quiet about the concept, although the company recently boasted that big changes were coming in 2025. However, a construction company that works with the Chicago-based fast food company and a McDonald's rep confirmed that the new On the Go restaurant is open in a statement shared with Restaurant Business Online on Monday, Dec. 16.
