Strong Santa Ana winds are set to develop across Southern California Tuesday, with peak gusts expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

In the San Diego County mountains and foothills, wind gusts will range from 30-40 mph, with isolated peaks reaching 50 mph on coastal slopes, the NWS said.

The winds will bring slightly warmer temperatures, with maximum temperatures rising 2 to 3 degrees in most coastal and valley areas, with another 4 to 8 degrees of warming on Wednesday.

High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 64 to 68 near the coast, 70 to 73 inland, 74 to 79 in the western valleys, 64 to 72 in the mountains and 75 to 78 in the deserts

The region will also experience low relative humidity, ranging from 15-20% in valleys and foothills Tuesday, dropping to 10-20% on Wednesday, according to meteorologists.

Combined with above-normal temperatures, these conditions will create elevated to locally critical fire weather risks. The most critical period is anticipated Wednesday morning through early afternoon in wind-prone areas.

Winds will gradually diminish by Wednesday afternoon and further subside Wednesday night into Thursday, the NWS said.
